Applied Business Solutions and The Compass Group Host N NV Business Owner’s Survival Seminar October 28 Atlantis Resort Casino

Northern Nevada Business owners concerned about reducing their companies’ business risk are invited to attend a complimentary Business Owner’s Survival Seminar (www.bizownersseminar.com) at the Atlantis Resort Casino on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. until 3:30p.m. The event is sponsored by The Compass Group and Applied Business Solutions.

The seminar is designed to help entrepreneurs manage the legal issues that put their business at risk every day by understanding their legal obligation and rights as a business owner. Attendees will learn critical requirements in the areas of corporate compliance, tax deductions and human resources in order to stay compliant and avoid legal ramifications. The seminar is intended for the business owner specifically since they are ultimately the ones who are legally responsible for the actions of the company and have the greatest amount to lose if they aren’t meeting the legal requirements of operating a business.
“Many fines and penalties in the areas of corporate compliance, taxation and human resources are preventable if approached from a proactive basis,” said Scott Burnett, Esq., director of education of The Compass Group. “We teach business owners real-world risk management techniques that can keep them out of the courtroom so they can focus on what they do best.”

Seating is limited and registration is required. Lunch and resource materials will be provided. A special networking session will also be available for attendees to discuss challenges and receive resources and solutions. Registration is available at www.bizownersseminar.com or by calling 888-386-3811.

Outsourced HR Still Makes Sense

There are a thousand resumes on your desk. There are only two positions open. Your president wants the two positions filled in two weeks — and with the right people — as they are critical to operations. Your company is not at optimum productivity without them. Money is tight and you cannot afford to train people and have them leave for greener pastures or be let go for underperformance. As head of HR, how will you meet all the expectations, keep your own job, and be able to sleep at night? Outsourcing HR makes sense. For more information on how outsourcing can be a competitive advantage, read Applied Recruiting Solutions’ article in the Northern Nevada Business Weekly Outsourced HR Still Makes Sense

FLSA the Right Way

Why do you as an employer need to understand the differences between Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) employee classifications? One simple mistake with FLSA classification of employees could put your company in jeopardy of getting hit with expensive fines and penalties. Accordingly, employers must be very careful in applying the exemptions with a goal achieving 100% compliance and eliminating the risk by understanding critical issues of FLSA compliance. Correctly classifying employees is a federal law. There are several tools and tips that you can use to accomplish compliance that Applied Business Solutions has put together in a white paper titled, Classifying Employees Properly: An Employer’s Guide to Exempt Versus Non-Exempt Status . With the economic challenges that companies around the country are facing, an FLSA related lawsuit or judgment is a preventable, unnecessary drain on your resources. Doing the right thing will cost you less in the long run, and is always a good risk management technique.

Competition for Management

There are 22 million fewer “Gen Xers” than there are “Boomers”. This is a demographic certainty. We cannot “snap” our fingers and produce 22 million forty year olds! Thus, in the next 20 years, the competition around the globe for mid-upper level managers is going to be FIERCE!!! Nothing like we have seen before. As a result, a company must hone its hiring practices, its interviewing techniques and its retention capabilities. As well, small companies need to offer employees “big company” benefits. If not, managers will tend to leave for companies with “greener pastures” and a more robust benefits platform.
